CL seires -- 8 MUTE groups with Dimmer level

Posted on 20:02 by Unknown

MUTE group in CL series comes with new Dimmer level control.
When the Dimmer level is set to infinity, it functions as a traditional Mute group.
When you set the Dimmer level to -10, audio channels in the MUTE group are attenuated by 10 dB.

Small but handy update.

New STAGEPAS series is announced

Posted on 06:32 by Unknown

Our speaker and amplifier team worked hard to brush up its sound quality and functionality of the mixer. You will find more capability with this simple system.

Power and SPL have been boosted. Of course, it's not only the numbers, but also speaker units and cabinet were much improved to produce better sound at higher SPL. Please try it at a shop and compare with other systems which state more wattage in their spec sheets. You will see reality.

The mixer has now reverb type, time and send level control which I like. You have more control and may use this product in wider applications.
And Feedback Suppressor (w/ switch) is a big bonus. I tried it at our listening session with SM58, and it worked as expected. I believe it was with 7 dynamic notch filters. It was enough for a small production.

Please find more details on our product page.

Fader calibration

Posted on 06:27 by Unknown
Faders on my console have chattering (vibrate when they are moved with a scene recall). Do they need to be serviced?

Usually, friction of a slider will be changed after running the console for several months, which depends on usage, environment, frequency of scene recalling, etc. Or the faders might have much dust inside. These may cause overshooting of fader position control. Please try Fader Calibration function of the console before contacting Yamaha service.

Please don't use any contact cleaner. It will remove special contact grease in a fader and make the situation worse.

(CL series and M7CL) While holding down the SCENE MEMORY [STORE] key of the panel, turn on the power. Press the FADER CALIBRATION button and follow the instruction in the screen.

(PM5D) While holding down the [ENTER] key of the panel, turn on the power of the PW800W power supply. Select "CALIBRATE FADER POSITION" and follow the instruction in the screen.

(LS9) While holding down the [SCENE MEMORY] key of the DISPLAY ACCESS section, turn on the power. Move the cursor to the FADER CALIBRATION button and press the [ENTER] key.

Nuendo 6 and Cubase 7 announced

Posted on 20:52 by Unknown

I came back from InterBEE which is a trade show of pro audio and broadcast equipment in Japan. Nuage got many attendees at its demonstrations.

On the same day, Nuendo 6 and Cubase 7 were announced.

I am a Cubase user at home. Cubase 7's new mixer and Channel Central screen are interesting. Added processors in the channel strip -- Gate, three types of compressors, Studio EQ with spectrum analyzer, Envelop Shaper, Tape and Tube saturation, and Limiter/Brick wall limiter/Maximizer in every channel strip, look powerful.

According to the news release,
Nuendo 6 will be available in the first quarter of 2013 and Cubase 7 will be available from December 5, 2012.

When saving a console file...wait for ACCESS!

Posted on 11:24 by Unknown

Live sound and commercial audio professionals often work on multiple Yamaha digital consoles. Storing an ALL console file makes bringing your mix with you easy, whether it is on an LS9, M7CL, or CL series console. Even though the process of saving a file may take less than a minute, the console is working hard to make sure everything is transferred over completely! You will always know that the console is at work when the ACCESS message appears on the console screen. As soon as the message returns to the current user title (for example. ADMIN, or GUEST), you know that it is safe to pull the USB flash drive out. Below are some screen shots to show an example of how it would appear on an M7CL series console. The location of the message is similar on the LS9, M7CL and CL series consoles.

M7CL: I'm Finished!

M7CL: Can't Touch This!

If you do not wait for the ACCESS light to turn off, the console file may become corrupted. Trying to load this file into the console may cause it to malfunction, a bad situation for any FOH or monitor engineer! So what's the lesson? When saving your console file, finish a crossword puzzle, read a book or find some interesting shapes in the clouds...anything but pull out your flash drive while ACCESS is on!

Good luck on the next show!

CL Editor Now Available

Posted on 16:53 by Unknown

Looking to find out more about the new CL Series functions & features? Here's your chance, we've just released the brand new standalone CL Editor for Windows & Mac.

The CL Editor doesn't require the StudioManagerV2 Host to run and instead operates as it's own host.  Just open up the CL Editor and you're ready to start programing the CL for your next gig.  There's also no longer a need for the DME-N Network Driver when syncing a CL console with your computer.  All console network information is input directly into the CL Editor via the "System Setup" option in the File menu.

There are lots of new features built into the CL Series so be sure to download your own copy of CL Editor to check some of them out.  I am personally quite fond of the new Premium Rack complete with dynamics processing from Rupert Neve.  Your own copy of CL Editor can be downloaded for free from our website by following the link below.

If you have any questions regarding the CL Editor or CL Series feel free to give us a call at: 866-211-9366 and we'd be glad to help you out.

The Yamaha CL Line of digital mixing consoles was just named Best of Show by ProSound Network at the 2012 NAB show in Las Vegas.  For many the NAB show was the first opportunity to get hands on with the new CL desks; it's no surprise to us that the ProSound Network was impressed with the consoles after seeing and using them for the first time.

Touch and Turn (User Defined Knob)

Posted on 05:55 by Unknown
We put four knobs next to the LCD. You may assign different functions to them --

Lamp dimmer, EQ/Comp parameter, Send level, and most of other functions can be controlled by a knob.

One of a new function for it is "Touch and Turn".
You may find a pink circle in LCD screen. When you touch a knob icon in the screen, the pink circle moves to it and a User Defined Knob assigned to "Touch and Turn" can control its value.
This will allow you to maximize convenience of touch screen operation.
User Defined Knob D is assigned to the function as a default. Please try.

Premium Rack with Portico

Posted on 18:28 by Unknown
We introduced Premium Rack with the CL series consoles.
It is another 8U processing rack for premium VCM effects from RND and Yamaha. You have, of course, a regular 8U effect rack for traditional VCM and SPX programs besides it.

The premium RND programs include Portico 5033/5043 which have been available as VST plug-ins for DAW software. The CL series come with these programs as a default and you may use up to eight instance of them. The Portico 5033 has a bypass switch which bypasses EQ processing BUT its transformer emulation. Many engineers already mentioned that it added essence of high quality analog circuit to the system.

PDF brochure is available for more details.

Dante Controller 3.2.0 Released for Windows & Mac

Posted on 14:57 by Unknown

Audinate recently released a new version of their Dante Controller Software for use with Windows and Mac operating systems. Version 3.2.0 was released in Febuary by Audinate and is available for download from their website.  The new Dante Controller brings slight changes to the software and also addresses some stability and reliability issues from the previous version of Dante Controller (v3.1.2).

For average users Dante Controller's UI will remain the same, changes have however been made to the "Device View" section of Dante Controller.  These include a renamed and revamped "Device Config" (Formally "Config") tab with a new sample rate "Pull-Up/Down" section.  The "Pull-Up/Down" sample rate selection is only available for the Brooklyn II Dante modules, the MY16 card does not support sample rate pull up/down because it uses a different wordclock from that of the Brooklyn II module. Supported sample rate pull-up/down settings are; +4.1667%, +0.1%, -0.1%, -4.0%.

A new "Network Config" tab has also been added, this section allows supported Dante devices to be toggled between "Redundant" & "Switched" modes.  The "Network Config" tab allows the user to specify static IP address for each ethernet port as well.  The Brooklyn II module is the only Dante device to support "Switched" mode but static IP support for the MY16 card may be coming in future firmware updates.

More detailed infromation regarding Dante Controller v3.2.0 can be found in the release notes from Audinate.

Best,

Nick

MGP Mixing Consoles Released at NAMM 2012

Posted on 15:58 by Unknown

Winter NAMM 2012 from Anaheim, CA was the most successful ever with over 95,000 attendees from all over the globe. One of the many new products Yamaha showcased at NAMM was our MGP Series of mixing consoles. The MGP line boasts two models, each one sporting the same feature set; the MGP12X and MGP16X.  While the MGP12X and MGP16X differ in channel counts, they both share the new and unique internal components, DSP, and features.  These new innovations come on the heels of decades in professional mixer design and promise to be the premier feature set amongst small format analog mixing consoles.

Features

D-PRE: The MGP series sports Yamaha's latest refinement in its microphone preamplifier circuit.  The D-Pre microphone preamplifier was originally designed by Yamaha to be used in our high-end recording equipment.  The D-Pre's are Class-A mic preamps that utilize an inverted Darlington circuit design.  The Darlington circuit works by employing two transistors, essentially the signal is amplified by the first circuit and then further amplified by the second circuit.  The result is more power with lower impedance giving you, the user unparallelled depth, imagery and warmth.  Fat natural bass and a pristine smooth high end set this mixer apart from others in it's class.

X-Pressive EQ: Yamaha has spent years developing the classic vintage sound in digital form through work on our VCM line of dynamic digital effects.  Studying sought after signal processing characteristics from legendary gear proved to be valuable as the research directly influenced the design of our new Equalizers on board the MGP Consoles.  The X-Pressive EQ's feature steep shelving of the high and low bands as well as pristine accuracy and response.  X-Pressive EQ gives the engineer the tools needed to process signals with that classic analog vibe offering truly unique possibilities for sound shaping.

1-Knob Compressor: You may be familiar with Yamaha's 1-Knob Compressor from the MGP's predecessor, the MG Line of analog mixing consoles.  The 1-Knob Compressor design offers engineers the dynamic control needed without the hassle of having to tweak multiple knobs.  Featuring optimally set parameters well suited for a wide variety of source material the 1-Knob Compressors are the perfect combination of efficiency and performance.

Hybrid Channel: While the MGP Series are analog consoles they also feature some very powerful on board DSP that provides for an expansive tool set with the feel and response of analog controls.  These stereo channels on the MGP mixers have the same X-Pressive 3 Band EQ as the other input channels but are also capable of other impressive and useful tasks thanks to their unique feature set and on board DSP.  Each stereo channel in the Hybrid Channel section has a Priority Ducker, Automatic Leveler and, Stereo Image control.

-The Priority Ducker allows one microphone to take priority over another sound source.  Just set it and forget it, no engineer is needed to raise and lower microphone levels.  The attenuation of the music or sound source can also be adjusted depending on what is best for your system and environment.

-The Leveler is another great feature that is perfect for smaller venues and unattended console operation.  Just turn the Leveler on and any signal input to the Hybrid Channel will all be automatically compressed so that all songs playback at the same volume level.  This makes for a much more pleasurable listening experience for the audience while the console can remain unmanned.

-The Stereo Image function blends the balance between right and left stereo sound sources so that audiences spread over a wide listening area can enjoy the mix much more naturally.  This feature is perfect for venues with multiple zones or speakers that are spread far apart from one another.

Dual Digital Effects: In addition to the stellar dynamic effects offered on board the MGP Consoles there are also professional quality time-based effects taken from Yamaha's professional line of studio mixing consoles.  The Rev-X Reverb package on the MGP offers three open and natural sounding reverbs; Hall, Room, and Plate.  The Rev-X Reverb package has previously never been available on any of our analog mixing consoles.  For even more time-based signal processing flexibility we've also included our famous SPX digital multi-effect processor.  SPX processing provides for 16 adjustable and incredibly useful effects.  Both Rev-X and SPX processes can be used simultaneously on the MGP consoles making for one truly professional effects section.

Digital Connectivity for iPod/iPhone: The MGP desks also are capable of bringing sources in via USB from your iPod or iPhone.  Signal from your iPod/iPhone can either be applied to the 2TR input or one of the Hybrid Channels for further signal processing.  The USB input for your iPod/iPhone also functions as a controller as well. Simply plug in your device equipped with the MGP Editor App (Available in the Apple App Store) and you'll have access to even more effects parameters giving you unprecedented control over the Rev-X and SPX effects.

By now I'm sure you're quite familiar with the MGP Series of analog mixing consoles but, just in case you're hungry for more there's a lot more info on the specifications and features unique to the MGP Series over at our website.  If you have any questions about the MGP Series or anything else related to Yamaha Commercial Audio feel free to give our Technical Support Department a call at: 866-211-9366 (Opt .1) between the hours of 8:30AM-12:00PM and 1:00PM-5:00PM Pacific Standard Time.  Thanks for reading!

Console Lab Returns to Buena Park, CA

Posted on 10:15 by Unknown
On February 8th and 9th, our Console Lab sessions will return to Buena Park, CA. Console Lab gives experienced audio engineers the opportunity to reserve a PM5D, M7CL, or LS9 console for a couple hours to work on their mixing skills. This is not a typical class where the instructors guide you through the board. It's just you, the console, and a multi-track recording of a show. Need a little help figuring something out? No problem! A training staff member will be there to answer any questions.

So, if you've ever thought to yourself, "Man, if I could just get my hands on that console for a couple hours". Now you'll have the chance... Sign up today!
