Thanks for the emails and notes about the M7CL Video

Posted on 11:45 by Unknown

Since the M7CL video was posted we have been getting a lot of emails and notes from different users and friends. We want to thank everyone for the support. We worked really hard on the video, making sure it was correct and as similar as possible to our seminars...sorry no jokes or stories were told because we had to keep it short.
Here are some pictures.

Signal Level Management on Digital Consoles -- Part 1

Posted on 16:51 by Unknown
One of the most common problems that we encounter during our seminars is lack of proper signal level between the input and output stages. Some engineers don't provide enough head amp level at the input stage and as a result, there is not enough level sent to the various monitor mixes and effects. Others provide too much gain at the inputs and end up clipping the signal before it hits the output stage. In the days of analog consoles, it was OK to push the meters into the red. In fact, some consoles sounded BETTER that way. But in the digital world, red on the meters is usually really bad. Why? Well, digital distortion isn't all warm and fuzzy like the good ole' analog distortion we love to hear. Digital distortion is really degrade the quality of the output signal and it usually sounds bad…very bad!

Over the next few weeks, we will have some short posts regarding signal flow on digital consoles. Please feel free to comment.

Happy New Year from Japan!

How was your holiday? Did you see your family? Was everyone fine?

I went to Hokkaido where my parents live. It was not very cold there. It's around 10 degree Fahrenheit. I was born there but it was not normal for me any more after three years of California life;-) I remembered a winter session in Boston-Waltham early 2007 which gave us the coldest loading of our tour.

By the way, it is NAMM time again and Mick is going to be there. If you see him at the convention center, please stop him and say hello.
